With a blend of festival-specific activities and iconic Carnival experiences, this is an unmissable opportunity to partake in the party of a lifetime.
Day 1: Rio de Janeiro
Bienvenidos! Welcome to Brazil. Locals often say that 'God made the world in six days, and the seventh, he devoted to Rio,' a sentiment we wholeheartedly agree with! In this vibrant city, adorned by the luminescent green of Guanabara Bay and embraced by the slopes of Sugarloaf and Corcovado, it's nearly impossible not to be swept away by the passion of the city's residents, known as Cariocas, especially during Carnival.
Your adventure commences at 4 pm with a significant welcome meeting. Following this, indulge in an included dinner with the group, sampling some of Carioca's specialties. Afterward, head to a local Samba club for a lively initiation into this popular dance form. As Rio pulsates to the rhythm of Samba during Carnival, you don't need to be an expert dancer to make the most of your time here. However, acquiring a step or two will undoubtedly enhance your experience and allow you to seamlessly blend in with the festive Carioca crowds.
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
Today, your local leader will guide you on a captivating tour of two of Rio de Janeiro's most iconic landmarks. No visit to Rio is complete without experiencing the grandeur of Christ the Redeemer, recognized as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Journey to the summit of Corcovado Mountain, standing at 710 meters, to marvel at panoramic views of Rio and gaze up at the iconic statue from its base.
Next, venture to Sugarloaf, another distinctive mountain extending over Guanabara Bay. Named for its resemblance to a traditional sugarloaf – a tall cone of refined sugar popular in the Caribbean and Brazil until the late 19th century. This evening, enjoy some leisure time to explore Rio's nightlife. Your local leader can provide plenty of recommendations if you're inclined to savor classic Brazilian dishes like feijoada or barbecue for dinner.
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
This morning, your leader will guide you to a local bloco, an integral part of the Carnival experience in Rio. Blocos are authentic street parties that redefine the notion of a celebration! Each bloco boasts a unique theme, with DJs or bands playing throughout the day. People of all ages and backgrounds dress up, joining the lively party that unfolds daily throughout Carnival. Your local leader will be on hand to ensure you fully immerse yourself in this vibrant experience.
The afternoon and evening are yours to explore Rio at your own pace or unwind on the beach with a refreshing swim. For those seeking an active adventure off the beaten track, consult your leader about the incredible hiking trails available. Climbing Morro Dois Irmaos, located nearby, offers arguably the best view of Rio, providing a rewarding perspective of the city.
Day 4: Rio de Janeiro
Indulge in a well-deserved morning sleep or kickstart your day with a traditional acai bowl for a refreshing boost. Later, rendezvous with your leader for the main event of the week – the parade in the Sambadrome. Over 100 of Brazil's top samba schools participate in this annual competition, showcasing fantastic floats and costumes in a spirited contest for the coveted title of Rio Carnival Samba Parade Champions. Immerse yourself in the mesmerizing display of dance and design as dedicated performers samba down the runway. Positioned in Sector 11, you'll enjoy a prime spot, providing a close-up view of the parade and the perfect opportunity to capture stunning photos.
The rhythm of Rio's Sambadrome celebrations resonates into the early hours of the morning. Feel free to revel in the festivities all night long or return to the hotel with your leader – the night is yours to enjoy!
Day 5: Rio de Janeiro
Take advantage of a leisurely morning to recover from the vibrancy of the Sambadrome. Consider a refreshing dip at one of Rio's beautiful beaches or simply unwind at the hotel. In the afternoon, an extraordinary opportunity awaits as you don a costume and become part of the parade, dancing your way down the illustrious Sambadrome runway – an experience of a lifetime!
Each Samba School comprises approximately 4000 dancers organized into twenty-five 'alas' or wings, each contributing to the overarching story or theme of the school. Join one of these 'alas' and relish 30-40 minutes of celebration within the Sambadrome. Rest assured, you don't need to be a samba expert; your utmost enthusiasm to jump, bounce, and dance around is all that's required. Absorb the infectious energy, savor every moment, and revel in playing a role on the grandest stage in the world.
After the parade, you're welcome to return to the hotel with your leader, who can recommend places for a final cold caipirinha or organize a group dinner to cap off this unforgettable experience.
Day 6: Rio de Janeiro
Today marks the conclusion of your Rio Carnival trip, and no activities are scheduled. After breakfast, feel free to check out of the hotel at your convenience; the check-out time extends until midday. If you have any last-minute explorations or arrangements in Rio, this day is yours to use as you wish. Whether you're reflecting on the vibrant Carnival experiences or contemplating additional adventures in Rio, make the most of your final moments in this dynamic city. Safe travels!
