May 31: Lisbon
According to legend, Lisbon was founded by Ulysses and named Olisipo, though some believe its name has Phoenician roots. Regardless, it is celebrated as one of Europe’s most captivating cities. On All Saints' Day in 1755, a massive earthquake destroyed much of the city. The Baixa district, rebuilt in a neo-classical style, remains its vibrant heart. Known as the "City of Explorers," Lisbon overlooks the River Tagus and offers a variety of unique neighbourhoods to explore. Wander through Alfama’s narrow streets, steeped in Moorish charm, and visit Bairro Alto to experience the soulful sounds of Fado. Excursions include the opulent 18th-century Queluz Palace and Sintra’s enchanting Royal Palace.  

June 1: Oporto
Discover the historic beauty of Oporto and the Vila Nova de Gaia district, famous for its port wine production. Alternatively, venture into Portugal’s scenic countryside to visit Guimarães, with its grand medieval castle, and Braga, home to the Bom Jesus shrine and an impressive cathedral. Shop for local treasures such as gold and silver filigree jewelry, azulejo tiles, porcelain, leather goods, and Madeiran lace. Savour regional specialties like caldo verde, a hearty soup of potatoes, cabbage, and smoked sausage, alongside appetisers of sheep’s cheese, olives, and smoked ham. June 6: Lorient  
Explore the vibrant fishing port of Lorient, where fishing boats, yachts, and container ships fill the harbour. Visit the former submarine base, now a naval museum featuring an authentic French Navy submarine. June 11: Southampton (London)  
Southampton, the largest port city on England’s southern coast, offers a blend of history and charm.
