Day 1: Rome
Buongiorno! Welcome to Italy! Overflowing with ancient ruins and religious monuments, Rome thrives with modern life, featuring designer shops, restaurants, cafes, and vibrant nightlife. No activities are scheduled until your welcome meeting at 6 PM, so feel free to arrive anytime. There's so much to see, from the Colosseum and the Forum to Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, and the Vatican City with St. Peter's Basilica. Arriving early is highly recommended! Embrace the local culture by sipping espresso at a quaint streetside cafe or indulging in gelato (Trastevere is a fantastic dining area). And if you’re enchanted by the Eternal City, toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to guarantee your return.
Day 2: Naples / Pompeii
Today, take a train to Naples, a lively city rich in passion, tradition, and culinary delights. With a history shaped by various empires and cultures—including Romans, Phoenicians, and Spaniards—Naples boasts a UNESCO-listed historic center and the famous Spanish Quarter, one of Europe's most densely populated areas. Join your leader for an orientation walk through the city center, culminating in a pizza tasting at one of the many renowned pizzerias. In the afternoon, board a train to Pompeii, located at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius. Your accommodation is conveniently situated near the entrance to the archaeological site.
Day 3: Pompeii
The modern town of Pompeii features a charming Old Town square, perfect for enjoying an authentic Italian coffee and observing local life. Today’s highlight is a guided tour of the ancient Pompeii ruins. Once a thriving Roman trading hub, Pompeii was preserved under ash after the catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, which buried 2,000 residents. Rediscovered in the 18th century, the site showcases well-preserved ruins, including villas, temples, and bustling markets that offer a glimpse into Roman life two millennia ago. Spend the remainder of your day relaxing or consider visiting nearby Herculaneum, known for its exceptional archaeological finds.
Day 4: Mt. Vesuvius / Sorrento
This morning, enjoy a private transfer to the magnificent Mt. Vesuvius, where you'll meet a local volcanology guide. Ascend to the summit for breathtaking 360-degree views of the Bay of Naples and the steaming crater. Although still classified as an active volcano, Vesuvius last erupted in 1944, with no current signs of lava. Witness the formidable power of the volcano that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum. In the afternoon, travel by private vehicle to the resort town of Sorrento, a beloved destination for over 2,000 years. Explore its picturesque piazzas, winding streets, and delightful sidewalk cafes, and don't miss trying the local limoncello liqueur.
Day 5: Sorrento
Enjoy a free day to discover the cliffside beauty of Sorrento. Stroll along the marina or relax at one of the small beaches. Consider a day trip to Capri, easily accessible by hydrofoil. Capri's rugged coastline is dotted with natural grottoes, and you can explore its fragrant citrus groves and charming villages. Don’t miss a boat trip to the famous Blue Grotto (La Grotta Azzurra), where the water glows an extraordinary blue. End your day with a fun gelato-making demonstration with your group.
Day 6: Amalfi Coast
After a short journey by private vehicle, arrive on the stunning Amalfi Coast, known for its rocky cliffs, azure seas, and charming whitewashed villages. If you prefer a leisurely walk with cultural highlights, stroll through Amalfi town, visiting the Cattedrale di Sant'Andrea and Chiostro del Paradiso. For a more active option, explore the Valley of Mills or take a bus to Ravello, a haven for artists and writers thanks to its breathtaking views and mild climate. Tonight, stay in Minori, a tranquil town just a 15-minute bus ride from Amalfi, offering stunning views and a more laid-back atmosphere.
Day 7: Positano / Amalfi Coast
This morning, take a short bus ride to Amalfi Town. Join your leader for a half-day hike along the famous Sentiero Degli Dei (Path of the Gods), a trail that winds through stunning landscapes and offers unparalleled coastal views. Trek through olive groves, vineyards, and ancient stone huts, all while spotting local farmers and goats along the way. The trail concludes in Positano, where you can explore or take a refreshing dip in the sea. Return to Minori by ferry and bus. As this is your final evening together, consider gathering for a celebratory dinner to toast your Italian adventure.
Day 8: Amalfi Coast
After breakfast, your trip concludes. If you'd like to extend your stay, please contact your booking agent to arrange additional accommodations.
