Meet your private Egyptologist-Guide and embark on a captivating visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), one of the largest and most comprehensive archaeological museums in the world located near the Pyramids. Upon completion of the tour, you will be transferred to Cairo Airport for your flight to Luxor. On arrival in Luxor, you will be transferred by private vehicle to the Sofitel Old Winter Palace where accommodation has been reserved for two nights. This accurately preserved historic British colonial era hotel is where famed archaeologist Howard Carter updated the world’s press with progress of his recovery of Tutankhamun’s treasures on the hotel noticeboard. This morning you will be met by your private Egyptologist-guide and head out to discover the Temple of Medinat Habu which is the Mortuary Temple of Ramses III. Continue to the house of famed archaeologist Howard Carter. Neglected for a long time, the house has been restored to its former state under the guidance of the famous Egyptologist and Archaeologist Dr Zahi Hawass. It is a fascinating insight into the life of the man who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun after years of searching the Valley of the Kings.

In the afternoon, return to the East Bank and visit the Mummification Museum. The ancient Egyptians believed that for a person to reach the afterlife, it was essential that both their body and their name remained, so their Soul would be transported from one life to the next. To achieve this the mummification rituals were developed to preserve the body. The museum contains several human and animal mummies as well as the tools and the canopic jars needed for the ritual. Today embark on a boutique Dahabiya, a traditionally inspired Egyptian boat from the time of the Pharaohs, to sail the Nile in the style. Step back in time as the winds and tides set your course along the life-giving Nile. As you glide along the legendary Nile River, flanked by verdant palm groves and fertile farmland, immerse yourself in the storied landscapes that have inspired travellers for millennia. Along the route, you’ll encounter a succession of majestic temples and archaeological wonders, each bearing testament to Egypt’s illustrious past.

The Merit Dahabiya is a sailing boat and has no motors, If required it gets towed by a tugboat from a distance, so you never feel any disturbing sounds or vibration during your trip.

This afternoon visit the temple complex of Karnak and the Luxor Temple built in the 14th century by two kings – Amenophis III and Ramses II. Prepare to be dazzled by these legendary temples. Step back in time amidst the colossal columns and towering obelisks of Karnak Temple, dedicated to the god Amun-Ra, and wander through the avenue of sphinxes that once connected it to Luxor Temple. Arrive at the magnificent Temple of Luxor, with its imposing statues, and view the intricately carved hieroglyphics and atmospheric courtyards before returning to your cruise.

Overnight aboard your luxuriously appointed sailboat as you savour a chef-prepared meal moored alongside the West Bank.

This morning visit the West Bank Necropolis and the burial ground of the Pharaohs – the Valley of the Kings. This is where Howard Carter explored for five years before he discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922, thus proving that not all the treasures had been released from this mysterious site. As recently as 2015 yet another unopened tomb was unearthed raising the tantalising prospect of more riches awaiting discovery. Your visit today includes a special upgraded ticket to include access to the tomb of the boy king Tutankhamun and the Ramses VI Tomb. Later visit the nearby Valley of the Queens, the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon which is believed to bestow great fortune on those who hear its fabled wailing noise. Admire the beautifully preserved murals and intricate bas-relief, adorned with inscriptions that offer valuable insights into language, mythology, and religion during the Egypt’s Greco-Roman era. This morning take a small boat to the Philae Temple dedicated to the Goddess Isis, and the purported burial site of her husband Osiris. Later view the High Dam, the Old Dam and the ‘unfinished Obelisk’ lying in the ancient granite quarries of Aswan for a fascinating insight into how the ancients were able to construct such marvels. This morning embark on a scenic motorboat journey to the Nubian Village on Soheil Island, nestled on the West Bank of the Nile near the Aswan Dam. As you sail past the First Cataract of Aswan, you’ll marvel at the clear, smooth waters and the natural reserve area dotted with small islands.
